Chemung County Executive Voices Support for NYS Gaming Referendum

Posted October 8, 2013

ELMIRA – In response to the New York State Division of Budget's announcement [last week] of the estimated fiscal impact of the Upstate New York Gaming and Economic Development Act, Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli encourages voters to support the referendum to amend the New York State Constitution to permit gaming resorts which will be on the November 5, 2013 ballot.

The Act authorizes up to four destination gaming resorts in Upstate New York and would provide new revenue for all regions of the State. The Southern Tier has been designated as one the regions to host a new gaming resort. Tioga Downs has expressed an interest in being considered as one of these resorts.

"The additional revenue that would be generated by a gaming resort would be welcome news for the taxpayers of the Southern Tier," said Santulli.  "In addition to the revenue to assist with educational aid and property tax relief, the expansion of Tioga Downs would bring numerous private sector jobs to the region."
