Chemung County Transit Begins Service to DeMet's

Posted June 1, 2011

The Chemung County Transit System (CCTS) will add bus service beginning June 6th to bring employees to DeMet's Candy Company in Airport Corporate Park. The new service is a response to Chemung County being made aware that new and existing employees needed transportation from Elmira to get to work at DeMet's in Big Flats for their two 12-hour work shifts (6 to 6).  The CCTS mobility manager was able to coordinate efforts and bring the project to fruition. This additional service is being funded in part with federal transit funding targeted specifically to support transit services to and from work.

DeMet's utilizes employees by contracting with both Employment Solutions, located at 111 North Main Street in Elmira, and Adecco, whose Elmira office is located on College Avenue. The service is important to DeMet's, as expressed by plant manager JR Reazor.

“We, at DeMet’s, are excited to have this opportunity to provide employees with a safe, inexpensive, consistent mode of transportation.  It is a win-win situation for the agencies and their employees and DeMet’s Candy Company.  We look forward to building this relationship with CCTS and thank the county officials and CCTS team for making it possible,” said Reazor.

Dan Mori, president of Employment Solutions, also sees the benefit of the service. “Employment Solutions appreciates Chemung County Transit for stepping up to fill the need of employment transportation. We encourage job seekers, particularly those who need transportation from Elmira, to call us if they would like to apply for work at DeMet's.”

New service will bring employees to their 6:00 AM shift and pick up the overnight shift leaving then.  Similarly, employees will be brought for their 6:00 PM shift and day-shift workers will be picked up then. The early morning express route will leave the Chemung County Transportation Center at 5:15 AM, travel north on College Avenue, stop at Grand Central Plaza, and arrive at DeMet's at 5:45 AM. The return express route will then depart DeMet's at 6:15 AM, stopping at Arnot Mall and Grand Central Plaza on its way to the Chemung County Transportation Center. The 6 PM shift change will depart the Chemung County Transportation Center at 5:00 PM and arrive at DeMet's at 5:35 PM. The return trip will depart DeMet's at 6:15 PM and arrive at the Chemung County Transportation Center at 6:50 PM.

The fare is $2.00 per trip, or by buying a monthly pass. The service is open to the public. Riders should call CCTS Dispatch at 734-5211 with questions.
