Tourism Promotion

Currently, $110,000,000 in travel and tourism monies are imported annually into Chemung County. Beyond the lucrative economic impact of tourism itself, local business and residents enjoy the community attributes generated by those very welcome visitors. Cultural, entertainment, dining and other amenities are enhanced by the travel and tourism market. Locals appreciate the opportunity to enjoy these lifestyle attractions and eagerly share them not only with leisure visitors but also with family, friends and prospective new recruits, investors and partners in the community’s economic progress and prosperity. Everybody wins.

The Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) increases visitation and strengthens the economic base of the county by promoting a positive image of Mark Twain Country as a tourist destination. Among the CVB’s recent promotion efforts over the course of a year:

  • $692,000 in annual Room Tax marketing monies administered by the Chamber of Commerce.
  • 40,000 Chemung County travel guides distributed.
  • 22 travel writers were hosted by attractions throughout Chemung County.
  • Offered 225 Trolley into Twain Country tours throughout July and August to attract visitors to Chemung County during the peak travel season.
  • Worked with numerous promotional initiatives through New York State, the Finger Lakes region, and Finger Lakes Wine Country to reach a broader audience.
  • Maintained the Chamber's tourism website, www.marktwaincountry.com, to provide current information on events, special offers and tourism business listings.
  • Promoted local events on an ongoing basis through social media initiatives to maximize tourism dollars.
