Corning Community College’s Office of Workforce Development and Community Education is offering a course for individuals interested in officiating as a New York State notary public. The class is scheduled for Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the College's Airport Corporate Park facility, 360 Daniel Zenker Drive, Horseheads, NY. The cost for the course is $119. Registration preferred by Friday, May 3, 2013.
Endorsed by the American Society of Notaries, this class prepares participants to pass the New York State notary exam and provides a comprehensive view of the notary public office, including helping participants understand confusing laws and concepts and explaining procedures in plain English. Participants will learn about the day-to-day issues a notary will face, including avoiding conflicts of interest, maintaining professional ethics, charging proper fees, when to defer to an attorney, how to handle special situations and minimize legal liability, and much more. The New York State exam schedule will be available at the class.
The instructor for the class, Kristen Schamel, is an attorney and brings a wealth of information and experience to the class.
