The Chemung County Chamber of Commerce 104th Annual Meeting of Members will be held on Wednesday. The Holiday Inn Riverview located in downtown Elmira will host members, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. The business program will take place at 6:30 p.m. and be followed by dinner. The chamber will honor Hal Holbrook, who has performed the one-man show Mark Twain Tonight since 1954. He is best known for his performance as Mark Twain, for which he won a Tony and the first of his ten Emmy Award nominations. Holbrook will receive the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce’s Global Legacy Award. The Global Legacy is given to individuals who have enhanced the image of Elmira at the national or international level. Previous recipients include former Congressman Amo Houghton, fashion’s Tommy Hilfiger, PGA golfer Joey Sindelar, and actor Rob Brown.
The chamber of commerce will also launch Twain 2010; a year of community wide festivities recognizing the milestone anniversaries of the author’s birth (175th), death (100th) and the publishing of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (125th).
Chair elect Kevin McGurgan [Excellus Blue Cross/Blue Shield] will take office that evening and current chair Bob Pfuntner [Pembrook Pines Media Group] will reflect on his completed year of service. In addition, the election of the 2010 slate of officers and board of directors will be conducted.
