Fourth Annual Civil War Encampment
10 am - 4 pm
The encampment will include members from various reenactment units, to include the 140th New York Volunteer Infantry, the 9th New York Calvary, the 33rd Virginia Infantry, the 21st Georgia Infantry and the 26th North Carolina Infantry.  There will be musket demonstrations, as well as camp life and medical displays. Robert E. Yott, author of “From Soldiers’ Home to Medical Center:  A Glance at the 125 Year History of the Bath Soldier’s Home,” will be available all day on Saturday, March 8, to talk about and sign his book.  Visitors will also be able to enjoy the Civil War Exhibit, “Soldiers of the Southern Tier:  From Service to Veteran Organizations,” which is on display from March 7 through May 4, 2008.  This exhibit will focus on the local soldiers and their service during and after the Civil War.

Across the Polar Sea: With Robert E. Peary on the North Pole Expedition
Opening Reception, March 18, 5pm - 7pm
In 1908, Peary made one last attempt to find the North Pole.  Among the men accompanying him were Donald B. MacMillan and Elmira native Ross Marvin.  During the expedition MacMillan took over 200 photographs.Using a selection of hand tinted lantern slides and excerpts from MacMillan’s journal and lecture notes; Across the Polar Sea follows the expedition from the departure from New York in the summer of 1908 through its return in the fall of 1909.  CVHM will be supplementing this exhibit with artifacts relating to Ross Marvin and his two expeditions with Peary.

Go Wild for Spring Birds!
Spring Field Ornithology Course on Birds and Habitat
In addition to Sapsucker Woods and other local birding hot spots, the class offers trips to Derby Hill on the southern end of Lake Ontario for hawk-watching and to Braddock Bay near Rochester for a session on bird banding. Day trips include visits to Derby Hill on the southern end of Lake Ontario to do a little hawk-watching and to Braddock Bay near Rochester. Overnight field trips are planned for the always-popular Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge at the north end of Cayuga Lake and the Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge in New Jersey, with other stops in the Cape May area.
The cost is $150 for lectures, $150 for the field trips, or $290 for both sections. An additional fee is required for the overnight trips.
